Our Friends in England and Australia Got Screwed By Universal Studios Far Worse Than We Did

Based upon initial first impressions, I had thought that Universal Studios had released superior DVD sets of the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series overseas. Boy was I wrong!!

Just viewing the specifications for the "Galactica DVD Sets" released in England and Australia in the link above, you can tell that the poor folks in England and Australia got screwed by Universal Studios far worse than those of us here in the United States.

Keep in mind that these are single-sided discs released overseas, with Universal Studios cramming as many as 5 episodes on one....1 sided disc. Some of those episodes 2-parters!!

I can only imagine with horror the compression problems these DVD sets are presenting to consumers in England and Australia due to idiotic Universal Studios cramming too much content on  one disc.

I am going to say what should have been said about Universal Studios a long time ago...

They don't know "jack shit" about DVD technology...They don't know how to manufacture DVD sets of classic, episodic television series. If there is a such thing as "Quality Control" within the DVD manufacturing wing of Universal Studios....it is an administrative broken system that needs to be cleaned up with rigorous regulation. Perhaps most importantly, Universal Studios is completely oblivious to the technological fact that cramming too much content on to one disc creates compression problems on these discs.

Universal Studios is releasing unacceptable and defective DVD products all over the world with alarming regularity. And that is no lie!!

Call Me a Pessimist If You Will, But I Do Believe That Universal Studios And Bryan Singer Are Trying to Weasel Out of Making This Movie For a Third Time

And out of all the things in this life...boy do I know Universal Studios and Bryan Singer!!

I have even come up with a symbol which I believe perfectly sums up the lack of progress Universal Studios and Bryan Singer always succumb to when trying to crank out a "Battlestar Galactica" movie....

Let's recap the "Universal Studios / Bryan Singer Scorecard" thus far, shall we?


1. Their "October 23rd 2011 Battlestar Galactica Movie Annoucement" -

Moving into the eighth month after this announcement, no production news, no casting news, etc. Zip, Zilch, Nada. Another "Press Release Hoax" orchestrated by Universal Studios and Bryan Singer no doubt.

2. Their "February 2009 Battlestar Galactica Movie Announcement" -

This claim by Universal Studios and Bryan Singer just sort of faded away with Universal Studos and Bryan Singer saying nothing (of course) as to why this movie never got made.

3. Their "2001 FOX Television Battlestar Galactica TV Series Announcement" -

Bryan Singer claims that it was the 9/11 attacks that halted this production. Yet every other movie and television series in production at that time still managed to get made.

Universal Studios and Bryan Singer should open up their own "B.S. Website" together, where the two of them can just shovel alot of B.S. to their website visitors.

"Quantum of Solace" On The SyFy Channel? Why Am I Not Surprised?

Bonnie Hammer, David Howe, and Mark Stern love this sort of thing. Last night on their monumentally boring SyFy Channel, they aired the James Bond flick, "Quantum of Solace." Yet another example as to the real reason why the three of them retitled their network....."SyFy." So that they could engage in the most lazy programming habits imaginable (airing anything and everything easily within arms distance reach, and not aimed at any segment of the viewing audience in particular.)

It has become clear that "SyFy" is not some cool renaming of "Science Fiction." It is in fact a corporate acronym from the "Universal Studios Black Tower" symbolizing their desire to not be tied down by a singular and discernable on-air identity. The ultimate manifestation of corporate laziness in broadcasting because it would limit their subject matter options in putting stuff on the air.

The SyFy Channel is nothing more than an ambiguous free-for-all of a cable network, where subject matter of all shapes and sizes (in the form of television programming) unrelated to one another are aired back to back on one ambiguous cable channel.

The master plan of NBC-Universal all along with this cable network, was to make their lives as lazy and as easy as possible. Professional wrestling here...a James Bond movie there....a cooking show here....AMBIGUITY EVERYWHERE!!

It's crystal clear now what the "SyFy" acronym's meaning is for viewers as intended by NBC-Universal....

"So You're Feeling Yucky?"

"Watch our cable channel and we'll make you feel even worse!!"

What is The Cold-Hearted, Brutal Truth About The SyFy Channel? It is a Carbon Copy of a Late 1970s Commercial Broadcast Network

ABC-TV used to pull this crap in the late 1970s, just as the SyFy Channel is doing now. Airing badly produced, badly written television programming not aimed at any segment of the viewing public in particular.

In ABC-TV's case, their garbage programming took the form of melodramatic cop shows such as "Hart to Hart", and crappy sitcoms like "Happy Days."

As for Science Fiction programming? ABC-TV absolutely decimated the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series and other Science Fiction series they touched.

In the SyFy Channel's case, their garbage programming has taken the form of such mindless nonsense such as"WWF Wrestling" and a cooking show.

As for Science Fiction programming? The SyFy Channel absolutely decimated any opportunity of reviving the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series or successfully making the "Galactica" property an ongoing lucrative franchise for themselves in the 21st Century.

The SyFy Channel's Sham Version of "Battlestar Galactica" Never Did Replace The Only True Original Series Produced in 1978

In no small part due to Ronald D. Moore's staggering lack of talent and imagination as a Science Fiction television producer and scriptwriter.

And the staggering lack of collective talent between Bonnie Hammer, David Howe, and Mark Stern as television programmers.

Thus, Ronald D. Moore's sham version of "Galactica" is rotting away in unsold DVD boxed sets on Amazon.com.

Of course, none of this would have happened if everyone involved knew their proper places in life from the beginning:

Ronald D. Moore: His only roll in life is to be a staff writer working for alot of producers at once.

Bonnie Hammer / David Howe / Mark Stern: All three of them are nothing but retail marketers who should be working in the marketing department of the "Tootsie Roll" candy company.

The SyFy Channel Never Stops Hoping To Make It Big By Teaming With The Video Gaming Industry

An industry if you think about it, is over 30 years old now and is as presently exciting as was the introduction of "Pong" in 1976. That game was boring as shit even in 1976.

Out of the scores of new theatrical projects Bryan Singer has announced and has claimed to be working on, not one of them has come to fruition...ever. And this includes:

Yet, during the past half decade, the only...and I mean the only Bryan Singer project that has ever made any sort of significant progress, is the most insignificant of his projects of all...

A piss-pot little television pilot for NBC which is nothing more than a remake of "The Munsters."

My how the mighty have fallen....

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Bryan Singer was poised to become the next Steven Spielberg or George Lucas. It never happened because Singer spent the entire decade of the 2000s announcing scores of projects and literally abandoning them a few hours later.

Bryan Singer has taken a massive hit to his career and his clout, and I'll tell you why...

Theatrical films are a director's medium and television projects are a producer's medium. This means on "The Munsters", Bryan Singer is going to working for alot of producers whereas if he had had the clout to get any of his announced theatrical projects off the ground, he would have been working for himself with input from producers.

The fact that out of all of the various projects Bryan Singer has announced over the years ( 99% of them theatrical) none of them he could get off the ground, yet the only project he could get off the ground (actually the producers got this project off the ground) was a piss-pot little television remake of "The Munsters", tells me that Bryan Singer is heading straight to television....permanently. Making failed television pilots based upon old television series. And being an ever roaming, hired hand television director for television producers.

I'll make an educated guess here and declare that Bryan Singer is now officially done as a theatrical director. This "Munsters" television pilot confirms it.

I also suspect that Bryan Singer's next port of call will be as a sitcom director.

Perhaps The Reasons Why This Project Never Gets Made, Is The Lack of "Moral Watchdogs" At Universal Studios

And Lord knows out of all of the studios in Hollywood, Universal Studios needs "Moral Watchdogs" the most.

Let Me Guess. The Failure of "Battleship" At The Box Office Has Killed Bryan Singer's "Battlestar Galactica" Movie

Always knowing how Universal Studios thinks when it comes to "Battlestar Galactica" isn't always a good thing.

And of course...Universal Studios and Bryan Singer won't say a word about the "Galactica" movie being derailed (again.) Both of them will quietly move on to other projects (without saying a word) as they always do.

All of These Years Universal Studios Has Turned Its Back On Science Fiction (With The SyFy Channel) And The "Battlestar Galactica 1978" Property, Is Resulting in "Bad Karma" For Them

Universal Studios has spent so many decades turning its back on Science Fiction with the once great Sci-Fi Channel which they gutted, and with their deliberate and continued mismanagement of the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" property...

...that now in the present day when they do set out to do Science Fiction (as with "Battleship" and "Cowboys & Aliens")

...Science Fiction won't have anything to do with Universal Studios.

Call it "Bad Karma" if you wish, but the day has arrived that the Science Fiction genre is now getting even with Universal Studios by turning its back on them.

Think about it. When Universal Studios now tries to do anything at all with Science Fiction (after years and years of deliberately trashing the once great Sci-Fi Channel and the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" property), any project they do now (no matter what it is) instantaneously tanks at the box office.

It's so bad now, that Universal Studios can't even set up a "Tent-Pole Science Fiction Property" of any sort for themselves in the movie industry.

1. Universal Studios has an intense corporate hatred of anything having to do with Science Fiction and Fantasy. Just look at their eternal and deliberate trashing of the "Battlestar Galactica" property and their cable channel called "SyFy" which has absolutely nothing to do with Science Fiction at all.

2. Universal Studios would have massively diluted the overall premise of "The Avengers" movie and severely stripped away any and all Science Fiction and Fantasy aspects of the film, rendering the film as safe as can be for that "ambiguous audience" Universal Studios thinks it has for the SyFy Channel.

Translation: Universal Studios would have made "The Avengers" boring as shit and bearing no resemblance to the comic book whatsoever.

4. Universal Studios would have created the wrong marketing campaign for the movie.

"Watch this movie or we'll insult your family on Internet bulletin boards" wouldn't have gone over too well for 'The Avengers.'" It didn't work for Universal Studios when they applied the same technique to Ronald D. Moore's "GINO" (Galactica in Name Only) series.

5. "The Avengers" overall would have been badly produced, written, and directed because Universal Studios never likes to venture too far away from itself when it comes to hunting down and hiring the talent necessary to make a good movie. Trust me, if Universal Studios had produced "The Avengers", their two old-timer standbys (Bryan Singer, Ronald D. Moore) would have been tucked into that movie somewhere, both of them responsible for the movie's shittiness.

6. Because Universal Studios hates Science Fiction and Fantasy, "The Avengers" would have had this odd, creepy feeling to it in terms of diluted, out of place, and mismatched content. Just look at their SyFy Channel.

7. Universal Studios wouldn't have been able to afford the stars in this movie.

The wear and tear on a movie studio's reputation would certainly take its toll after awhile.

Of course, Universal Studios has never cared about the well being of its global reputation since they first began announcing and failing to produce this "Battlestar Galactica" movie beginning in 2001.

What sorts of corporate and political benefits would be reaped from a movie studio repeatedly announcing (be-ennially) and failing to produce (be-ennially) the same movie again and again?

Of course, no financial benefits whatsoever. In the case of Universal Studios, the benefits would be extremely political, extremely self-centered, and extremely creepy as in straight out of the Twilight Zone. Translation: No benefits any regular human being would understand. Only the extremely creepy dudes working in Universal Studios "Black Tower" would understand any sorts of benefits reaped from intentionally not producing a movie after repeatedly re-announcing it every two years.

Could Bryan Singer have an equal hand in this movie repeatedly and intentionally not being produced?

Absolutely!! Since Bryan Singer couldn't jump-start a tricycle no matter how hard he tried, and his extremely skimpy work history is most likely due to his preference for routinely abandoning movies during pre-production, his allegience with Universal Studios is icing on the cake for this "Battlestar Galactica" movie never getting made.

Will this movie ever get made?

Not as long as the extremely creepy dudes in Universal Studios "Black Tower" continue to reap their extremely creepy and intangible benefits from repeatedly announcing this movie every two years and deliberately not producing it every two years. And not as long as Universal Studios continues to own and deliberately mismanage the property.

A Recurring Theme And Problem With NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel is The Staggering Lack of Producing And Directing Talent Always Resurfacing

There are plenty of other producers and directors in Hollywood infinitely more talented than Ronald D. Moore and Bryan Singer. I suspect the reason why NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel has chosen not do to business with them is because they are all "A-List Talent" requiring a great deal of money to keep them within arms distance reach.

Ronald D. Moore and Bryan Singer on the other hand, are "Cheap-O B-List" affordable hired hands within arms distance reach of NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel eternally on call for the next rotten project NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel wants to make.

Even though Ronald D. Moore's sham take on "Battlestar Galactica" was not a commercial success, even though Bryan Singer can never get himself out of the embryonic, pre-production phase of making a "Battlestar Galactica" movie (after 11 years), the two of them are still attractive to NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel because they are alot cheaper to keep around as "hired hands in limbo" as opposed to trying to hire to the mega-expensive status of Joss Whedon.

It would never occur to NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel to hire anyone other than Ronald D. Moore or Bryan Singer to dabble in "Battlestar Galactica" because everyone else in Hollywood has talent and is too expensive for NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel to hire. Which is why, for example, Bryan Singer still..."kinda, sorta"...still hangs around NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel after not producing a "Battlestar Galactica" movie for them after 11 years. He's cheap and affordable to "kinda, sorta" keep around.

Why Did Bryan Singer's "Excalibur" Movie Really Die?

Well, I can certainly subscribe to the theory that someone else beat Bryan Singer to the punch due to Bryan Singer inching along at a snail's pace during the pre-production process.

You could certainly plug this theory into "Battlestar Galactica" and it would explain why a Bryan Singer "Galactica" movie has never materialized in 12 years.

You could also plug this theory into "The Munsters", "The Six Billion Dollar Man", and "Star Trek" and it would explain why these projects aren't unfolding either due to Bryan Singer taking 100 years during the pre-production process.

But is there something else going on here which would explain why Bryan Singer had the "Excalibur" movie yanked from him? Something additional having to do with Bryan Singer's modus operandi of snail's pace in everything he does?

Such as, the studio lost confidence in him during the pre-production process? And not just due to his snail's pace during the pre-production process?

If you look at Bryan Singer's work history during the past decade, it is remarkably light. He very rarely comes through with a project. If he does manage to do so, it takes him years and years to do so. He has been working on "Jack The Giant Killer" for hundreds of years.

In Hollywood, professionalism = expediency. It isn't good enough that you merely know how to make movies very well. You have to crank them out very quickly. I would assume that if you don't crank a project out quickly, you gain a reputation of not being professional.

In the case of "Excalibur", perhaps the studio saw that Bryan Singer wasn't a professional film director because he wasn't fast enough in the director's chair. In some studio's eyes, this may very well mean..."This kid needs to go back to film school."

If Bryan Singer had been the director of the "Avengers" movie presently in theaters, (and not Joss Whedon)...the "Avengers" movie would presently be locked in development hell, eternally stuck in between the press release announcing the movie, and eternal pre-production damnation. The "Avengers" movie would not be in theaters right now if Bryan Singer had been the director.

October 17th 2011...Bryan Singer announced that he was directing a "Battlestar Galactica" movie, just as he announced in 2009 and 2001. The 2009 and 2001 "Battlestar" movies never came to pass. We are now moving into the 7 month mark of the October 17th 2011 announcement, and there is no physical evidence whatsoever that this supposed "Battlestar" movie even exists.

With any other film director, hitting the 7 month mark after a movie's press release would indicate that the world would be very aware of active, physical pre-production going on with that movie.

Not Bryan Singer.

Thus far, the Bryan Singer projects that are not getting made:

1. Battlestar Galactica
2. The Six Billion Dollar Man
3. The Munsters
4. Star Trek
5. X-Men 4 &5

Would Bryan Singer care to share with the world any of his other projects that won't be getting made either?

At What Point Does Universal Studios And Bryan Singer Begin Having Individual And Joint Credibility Issues Over This Film Clip And Many Other Issues?

If it hasn't happened yet already...

1. Battlestar Galactica - No proof of its physical existence yet. 7 months after the above film clip and press release.

2. The Munsters remake - No proof of its physical existence yet. 6 months after the press release.

3. Six Billion Dollar Man - No proof of its physical existence yet. 6 months after the press release.

If they haven't done so already, Bryan Singer and Universal Studios will go down in history as the most unproductive filmmaking partnership in Hollywood history.

What about Bryan Singer's "other dream" of making a "Star Trek" television series? That hasn't materialized either.

Instead of having evolved into a legitimate, formidable, and reliable filmmaking presence in Hollywood, Bryan Singer has instead mutated into an over grown adolescent and "flim-flam artist" who somehow is always able to not follow through with 100% of everything he announces.

This indicates to me that:

1. Bryan Singer is ultimately always unable to get funding for these projects he keeps announcing.

2. His supposed partnership with Universal Studios may very well just be a scam (likely orchestrated and perpetuated by Universal Studios itself with Singer quietly along for the ride), since he hasn't produced anything with Universal Studios in 12 consecutive years.

3. His IMDB page will always be the only accurate indicator of what Bryan Singer is working on. Which means he will always be in post-production with "Jack - The Giant Killer" for the rest of his life.

4. At some point during the past decade, Hollywood overall has probably turned its collective back on Bryan Singer, and will probably never finance anything else he wants to do ever again. Could "Superman Returns" have had something to do with that?

Universal Studios President Ron Meyer Admits To Making "Shitty Movies", Yet He Continues To Make Them Anyway

Does Ron Meyer not read scripts before the cameras start rolling? Surely this man can read. Why did he wait until "Cowboys & Aliens" was in theaters before admitting to the fact that..."Yeah, it's a shitty movie?" An experienced studio executive would know a movie is shitty just by reading the damn script, long before he would hire and over pay a film crew and cast members to commit the shitty idea to film.

Why does Universal Studios President Ron Meyer not realize a movie is shitty until long after it has been post-produced and distributed to movie theaters? Aren't there warning signs along the way that a movie would be shitty? Long before principal photography would begin?

In the case of "Cowboys & Aliens", I could have told Ron Meyer that the movie would have sucked even with Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard involved. And the primary reason why the movie sucked is because it was an extremely mundane, overused idea.

Let's see now...Where have we seen (before) Science Fiction and fantastic fantasy elements merged together with the wild west? Why...none other than the 1966-1969 television series "The Wild, Wild West" starring Robert Conrad and Ross Martin. In "Cowboys & Aliens"... I kept expecting to see the evil "Dr. Miguelito Lovelace" step out from behind a master control panel that controlled all of the evil alien creatures, and begin having a gunfight with secret agents James West and Artemus Gordon.

And in interviews on camera, both Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard actually thought that the "Wild West + Science Fiction" was a novel idea!! They actually thought that no one had ever thought of it before!! Surely Spielberg and Howard must have caught an episode of the "Wild, Wild West" at some point growing up. And "The Wild Wild West" did all of that Science Fiction / Western stuff a hell of alot better than "Cowboys & Aliens" did. And it did it in a really inspired and entertaining way. Sometimes even downright creepy. And it did it successfully for four straight seasons on television.

What about "The Wolfman?" Did Ron Meyer not learn his lesson from the movie "Van Helsing?" People don't like the Universal Studios monsters. They don't want to see them updated or given a facelift. People (the general public that buys movie tickets) want the Universal Studios monsters to remain on old black and white films being shown late at night on local affiliate stations.

It some studio were to be stupid enough to remake the old Michael Landon movie "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" I guarantee you it would bomb big time at the box office. The original wasn't a box office smash, and the public doesn't want to see some troubled youth with psychological problems turning into a werewolf. If the kid were happy and wealthy and used the werewolf power to his advantage it might work. Other than that...

Of course, it is the moral responsibility of every movie studio to continuously take care of the source material of all of the television series they own, since all of these television series are the television heritage of the viewing public and belong to the general public. In this instance, it is obvious that Universal Studios has not been taking care of the source material of "The Bionic Woman" just as they have not been taking care of the source material of "The 1978 Battlestar Galactica" series.

So of course, when the times arrived for Universal Studios to put both "The 1978 Battlestar Galactica" series and "The Bionic Woman" on to DVD, the neglected source material of both which was their own damn fault due to years of neglect, became the only available elements to put on to DVD.
