Ronald D. Moore and SyFy Channel Are Moving Into Unfortunate Territory
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Studios-1978-Battlestar-Galactica/dp/1434895408/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1301864102&sr=1-2
Now that the highly aggressive "guerrilla stealth marketing campaign" of Ronald D. Moore and SyFy Channel is subsiding...with the hysteria associated with it also subsiding (Ronald D. Moore is God....Ronald D. Moore is a celestial gift to televised Science Fiction)...Ronald D. Moore and SyFy Channel are now moving into an unfortunate phase of their past partnership together....where the actual work they have produced together will unfortunately be judged on its own merits....without a fanatical stealth marketing campaign backing it up.
How will the low rated and extremely uninspired trilogy of "GINO"...."Caprica"....and "Blood & Chrome" be regarded as worthy contributions to televised Science Fiction or the only true "Battlestar Galactica" having aired in 1978? How will "GINO"....."Caprica".....and "Blood & Chrome" hold up when compared to such classics as the original "Star Trek"....."Galactica (1978)"......"Time Tunnel".....or "Star Trek: The Next Generaton?"
I think in the very near future....if the process hasn't begun already....the partnership of SyFy Channel and Ronald D. Moore as well as what they produced together will be labeled (and infamously known) for what it was....an extremely political and self indulgent business relationship for all parties involved where televised Science Fiction and the "Battlestar Galactica" property (in actuality) had absolutely nothing to do with the very nature of their business (working) relationship together...and what they ultimately produced for the television screen. And what they ultimately produced doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath with classic "Star Trek"....."Galactica (1978)"......."Time Tunnel"........"Star Trek: The Next Gneration".....or any other classic Science Fiction television series.
It's a safe bet that many of the people who got caught up in the "Ronald D. Moore" hysteria generated by SyFy Channel and Moore himself will eventually come down from the clouds and ask themselves...."What the hell was I thinking? Ronald D. Moore's television series for SyFy Channel suck ass!! I'll go back to watching the shows I have always liked such as "Star Trek"....."Galactica (1978)"......and "Time Tunnel."
The funny thing about stealth marketing campaigns (especially the real nasty ones generated by Ronald D. Moore and the SyFy Channel) can't be sustained forever. Sooner or later these campaigns do die off....and many times what is left in their wake are far inferior products....as is what is proving to be so with Ronald D. Moore and SyFy Channel.
