After a Decade, it Can Be Safely Concluded That NBC-Universal's Attempt to Reimagine "Battlestar Galactica" Was a "Mass Market Commercial Failure"
And this includes its "Bastard Offspring"...."Caprica" and "Blood & Chrome"
This conclusion can be safely arrived at for the following reasons....
1. "GINO" - (Galactica in Name Only), "Caprica", and "Blood & Chrome" are exhibiting the classic symptoms of all other SyFy Channel original productions. Not having any staying power or longevity in the public's memory.
2. These three productions are not the sorts of productions anyone could build a "Battlestar Galactica" franchise on because...
a) All three productions were poorly conceived of in the first place misusing the "Battlestar Galactica" brand name.
b) All three productions and its makers displayed nothing but hostility towards its source material..."The 1978 Battlestar Galactica" series.
c) You can't be hostile towards your source material while at the same time expecting to build a science fiction media franchise from your source material.
d) Quite frankly, all three productions..."SUCKED BIG TIME"....from every conceivable standpoint. Conception, execution, scriptwriting, casting. In short, these three productions "WEREN'T ENTERTAINING in THE SLIGHTEST" for mass market television audiences. All three productions were highly selective of their target audience...."The SyFy Channel's Andy Warhol Goofball Friends on Wall Street"...who all have very strange tastes in television programming. All three productions were badly produced "hunks of junk" made for a very "razor thin and finite demographic" on Wall Street with eccentric tastes in television programming.
3) These three productions were made by a corporation (NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel) and an individual (Ronald D. Moore) with no great love for "Battlestar Galactica", and no great love for the infinite commercial possibilities of televised science fiction geared towards the widest (mass market) family friendly audiences. NBC-Universal and Ronald D. Moore do not make television programming for the masses, they instead make it for themselves and their finite number of goofball (eccentric) friends on Wall Street.
4. Even if one were to stretch the human imagination as far as it could go thinking about it, no corporation (NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel) responsible for such schlock as "Blind Date" and "Maury Povich" would be intelligent enough or mass market SAVVY enough to turn "The 1978 Battlestar Galactica Series" into an ongoing media franchise of the size of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." It ain't gonna happen.
5. NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel's idea of science fiction continues to be "Blade Runner-esque" "Post-Apocalyptic Clap-Trap" with a "Leather Fetish." Just look at their latest production...
For some reason, NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel has always had this thing (fetish) for leather in their productions. Dating back to "Tin Man." Until of course, their failed reimagining of "Battlestar Galactica" came along and then their "fetish" switched to three-piece business suits and neck ties...in a galaxy supposedly light years from Earth!! Now they're back to leather again. The exquisite and extremely artistic wardrobe of "The 1978 Battlestar Galactica" series would be too much of a CEREBRAL STRETCH for NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel executives to wrap their thoughts around. NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel must buy leather motorcycle jackets and business suits in bulk for their ongoing, failing productions.
