This blog has never liked this series, and these are the reasons why....
1. The entire existence of this series was due to the fact that Universal Studios wanted to retain ownership of copyrighted fragments of the brand name..."Battlestar Galactica"...
a. The title
b. character names
c. ship names
d. premise
It was a rotten to the core business deal that (of course) only reaped ownership benefits for Universal Studios, profit potential be damned. There was also never intention of making this business deal attractive to a mass market audience. Thus, all four low rated seasons of..."GINO" - (Galactica in Name Only)...on the..."SyFy Channel"...
2. In walks Ronald D. Moore who was hungry for his own television series to be in charge of, even if it ultimately turned out to be an insignificant one on an insignificant little..."Po-Dunk"...cable network in the 2000's. Isn't it amazing how frequently bad things happen in the movie and television industries coincidentally?
3. There was never any intention of appropriately honoring what came before with this..."GINO"...series and indeed, many blunt critics (not tied up in the..."SyFy Channel's....increasingly irritating and ongoing..."Stealth Marketing Machine"...) at the time noted the blatant hostility the..."GINO"...series expressed towards its source material...the..."1978 Battlestar Galactica"....series.
4. As Ronald D. Moore and some of his hold over..."Star Trek"...buddies settled in to start work on their very own..."Po-Dunk"...television series, they immediately began doing what the astute expected him and them to do...
a. Swiping huge chunks of source material from..."Star Trek"...in order to actually give this series some contents that they were familiar enough to implement.
b. They also swiped story material from..."Species" - The Movie....and everything else Ronald D. Moore could remember watching on television and in the movies his entire life.
c. Edward James Olmos even made the hardly surprising suggestion that this series should also be a continuation of..."Blade Runner" - The Movie...even though..."Blade Runner"...was a box office flop. Perhaps the biggest box office flop of 1982, actually outdoing..."Tron"...
d. Olmos also made the hardly surprising suggestion that this series shouldn't have extra-terrestrial (bad guy) creatures in it even though that was the type of series Ronald D. Moore was supposed to be doing by its very nature and original source material.
Together, Ronald D. Moore and Edward James Olmos wound up doing the most boring, bland, and having absolutely nothing to do with..."Battlestar Galactica"...television series ever made even though the name..."Battlestar Galactica"...was the title they were using. Why didn't they use the titles..."Star Trek"...or..."Blade Runner"...instead? Oh, that's right!! Because Universal Studios wanted some sort of...rotten to the core....business deal that would retain ownership (for them) of certain copyrighted fragments from the..."1978 Battlestar Galactica"...series. Even if it meant Ronald D. Moore and Edward James Olmos coming in and doing riffs on...."Star Trek"...and..."Blade Runner"...in the process instead of actually doing..."Battlestar Galactica"... Universal Studios didn't care because their end of the business deal was complete with ownership retention. What Moore and Olmos did beyond that wasn't their concern. Not that Universal Studios would have cared anyway. They didn't.
After this low rated fiasco completed its troubled and low rated course after four low rated seasons on the..."Po-Dunk SyFy Channel"...Ronald D. Moore even had the unmitigated gall to refer to himself as the..."Re-Creator"...of..."Battlestar Galactica"...even though what he actually did in this series had absolutely nothing to do with..."Battlestar Galactica"...How about having some respect for the departed individuals who actually created..."Battlestar Galactica?"...Glen A. Larson and Leslie Stevens.
And when this blog uses the term..."Battlestar Galactica"...it is referring to the only legitimate incarnation of it which is the 1978 series starring the late Lorne Greene, the late Richard Hatch, the late John Colicos, the late Tony Swartz, and the thankfully still with us Dirk Benedict, Herb Jefferson Jr., Terry Carter, Maren Jensen, Anne Lockhart, Laurette Spang, and Noah Hathaway. Not to mention the late Glen A. Larson and the late Leslie Stevens.
Universal Studios, Ronald D. Moore, and Edward James Olmos peddled their..."Medicine Man Products"...for four low rated seasons on the eternally low rated..."SyFy Channel"...without the presence or financial support of any mass market television audience.
Take a bow, gents!! How does it feel to have no money or love from anyone after this ill-fated business venture of yours a decade ago?
"Battlestar Galactica"...remains the..."Sleeping Giant"...it always has been before and after these rotten people came along.

Read about the books Universal Studios has tried and failed to censor on Amazon.com, as well as other stuff...
And
read the books at another location where Universal Studios and its
stealth marketers won't be able to post negative, misleading (stealth
marketed) reviews of the books via them purchasing candy and Rogaine
Foam on Amazon.com (allowing them access to the book review section) and
not actually buying and reading the books.
