NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel doesn't just hate Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica." They loathe both, despise both, are repulsed by both. This is not a Science Fiction friendly corporation. This is not a "Battlestar Galactica" friendly corporation. Instead, NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel is a severely broken and dysfunctional corporation when it comes to the subjects of Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica."
Because NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel lacks the internal corporate talent to do anything constructive with Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica", they hate both and don't want to be bothered with both. This corporation lacks the business talent to envision and realize long term goals with Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica", so through the prism of its own corporate narrow mindedness, it only sees Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" in condescending terms because of its corporate inability to bring both to life with talent and imagination. If you don't have the talent and imagination to master something, you're going to SNEER at it. Human nature. And NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel has been a victim to it since day one. In their eyes, both deserve nothing more than an incorrect perception of their endless potentials.
In its cerebrally challenged and incorrect perception of Science Fiction, NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel offers television viewers nothing more than badly produced (and low budget)...."one off"....horror movies. Television programming having nothing to do with Science Fiction ("Chico's Cosmic Kitchen", "WWF Wrestling", "Haunted Highway.") Disposable "junk food" is how this corporation regards Science Fiction. What is perhaps the most interesting dysfunctional characteristic of NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel as a corporation, is they SNEER at what they don't have the talent to manage properly. They SNEER at true Science Fiction, they SNEER at the real "Battlestar Galactica" (the 1978 series.)
NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel doesn't have one...not one....ongoing Science Fiction media franchise surviving from decade to decade ala' "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." Not only does this have everything to do with this corporation's full blown hatred of the entire Science Fiction genre and "Battlestar Galactica", but it also has everything to do with the fact that NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel does not perceive Science Fiction normally and healthily the way Paramount Pictures does and the way Walt Disney does. Both of these business rivals of Universal Studios perceive Science Fiction as something to be strategized for long term financial goals, whereas NBC-Universal /SyFy Channel (Universal Studios) regards Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" specifically as entities to be SNEERED at via quicky "one-off" projects" and badly produced projects ("GINO", "Caprica", "Blood & Chrome", "Sharktopus", "Frankenfish", "Ice Spiders", "Area 51.") Projects that vanish as quickly as they appear (into the Wal-Mart $5.00 Discount DVD Bin) with NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel reaping no long term financial goals from them.
NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel will never get it right with Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" because this corporation will never stop hating and SNEERING at Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica." When Science Fiction is hated as much as this corporation hates it, no money will ever be made from it on the levels of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." Thus, in the arenas of Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica", NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel is the "Homeless Corporate Entity" while Paramount Pictures Corporation ("Star Trek") and Walt Disney ("Star Wars") are living on "Easy Street."
NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel spent the entire decade of the 2000s arguing with the general public on Internet bulletin boards (such as the now defunct http://www.Scifi.com/Galactica forum) over the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series and how it (according to them) should just remain dead. This in itself should be a damn good indication of how thoroughly screwed up, dysfunctional, and thoroughly out of touch with reality this corporation has always been towards Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica." When you throw in the astonishing extra element of them willing to argue with the general public for 10 years in order to try and force their ill-conceived and warped business perceptions upon the general public regarding "Battlestar Galactica", you have a corporation in dire need of spending long periods of time on a "Psychiatrist's Couch."
NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel also has always regarded Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" as its mortal enemies to be SNEERED at, to be mismanaged on purpose ("Battlestar Galactica 1978"), and procrastinated with. Universal Studios has been making deliberately fraudulent (and misleading) press releases of a "Battlestar Galactica" movie supposedly being in production since 2001. And they're still making them at this late date (2013) with no end in sight.
"Battlestar Galactica 1978" would be the third largest, Space Fantasy franchise right now (right behind "Star Wars" and "Star Trek") and enjoying its 35th year of unprecedented business success with "Star Wars" & "Star Trek" sized profits, if the thoroughly dysfunctional corporation NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel had never owned it.
