...This production is still doomed....
Remakes: Remakes / Reimaginings / Reboots rarely work in Hollywood. Simply because those assigned to reimaginings by the studios rarely if ever know what the "Special Magic" was that made the classic television show so endearing in the first place. So, those assigned to the projects repeatedly just "Spit Ball" back and forth (in the writers room) their best "guesstimates" as to what it was that made the classic television show so great....Rarely if ever hitting the bullseye. There were only two instances when "Remakes" of classic television shows turned out really well:
1. The "Fugitive" remake with Harrison Ford in 1993.
2. The "Star Trek: The Next Generation" reboot in 1987.
The "Special Magic" that the "1978 Battlestar Galactica Series" had aside from the intriguing merging of......."Ancient Egypt".....with......."Religion".....with.....finding Earth....(and it worked!!) was also this intriguing side story of an incomplete yet still loving family serving together aboard a "Battlestar." The loving yet strong Commander Adama (Lorne Greene) with his equally loving and strong son Apollo (Richard Hatch) with the equally loving and strong sister Athena (Maren Jensen.) Incomplete family as in "Illa" the mother and "Zac" the kid brother were lost in the "Cylon Attack."
Yet the "Adama Family" also extended their familial love to the friends around them..."Colonel Tigh"..."Starbuck"...."Boomer"...."Sheba"...."Cassie"....and...."Boxey." Watching "Battlestar" to this day I still sense the fatherly love Commander Adama (Lorne Greene) gave off to everyone around him....to his children and friends.
You can't recapture lightning like that in a bottle in a...."Remake / Reimagining / Reboot / Rethink....etc...etc."
You can't do away with...."Ancient Egypt"....."Religion"....."Finding Earth".....and a loving family serving aboard a "Battlestar" and expect a "Battlestar" movie to fly at the Box Office 38 or 39 years later. Because these are the "core ingredients" that make "Battlestar Galactica" what it is.
You can't make a "Battlestar Galactica" movie using only the "Battlestar Galactica" title as Universal Studios obviously wants to do. As I said earlier....if this latest press release is legitimate....I suspect Universal Studios wants nothing more than a "Transformers-esque"...."Pacific Rim-esque"....summer movie identical in content to those two using the "Battlestar Galactica" title. Instantly disposable after a disappointing Box Office run and straight to DVD in three months.
This entire evolving....."Fiasco".....is beginning to smell like...."The copyright is expiring on 'Battlestar Galactica' and Universal Studios needs to crank out any old piece of shit to renew its ownership of the copyright."
Universal Studios: There is still the issue of Universal Studios itself. The corporation that has been mismanaging on purpose for the past 36 years....The "Battlestar Galactica" property. A corporation that continues to this day....in refusing to acknowledge the fact that...."Battlestar Galactica" is indeed the "1978 Battlestar Galactica Series." If this movie is moving forward...I have zero trust in a corporation going into making this movie with the mindset of continuing to hate the "Source Material" of "Battlestar Galactica"....which is....."The 1978 Battlestar Galactica Series." I also have zero trust in a corporation that has hated and mismanaged "Battlestar Galactica" on purpose to the degree that it has...during the past 36 years. This same corporation suddenly doing a 180 degree about face, and wanting to make a "Battlestar" movie?........CREEPY......VERY...VERY.....CREEPY!!!
The only logical conclusion that can be drawn is that Universal Studios will inevitably mismanage on purpose the movie as well....stuffing it with thoroughly unrelated ingredients to "Battlestar Galactica."
Universal Studios only hope at Box Office salvation is to hire outside help to make this movie for them. Outside help that does not hate the "1978 Battlestar Galactica Series"...the source material of "Battlestar Galactica." And outside help that would love and embrace the source material. If this movie is an in-house production at Universal Studios....the movie is doomed to fail.
To me...Universal Studios announcement that they are doing a "complete reimagining of 'Battlestar Galactica' is nothing more than further confirmation that they still hate the source material of "Battlestar Galactica"....which is "The 1978 Battlestar Galactica Series"....and they continue to refuse to acknowledge that "Battlestar Galactica" is indeed...."The 1978 Battlestar Galactica Series." And they would rather pollute "Battlestar Galactica" with the likes of Ronald D. Moore's unrelated garbage to "Battlestar Galactica" for example, than do it the correct way....which is the 1978 series.

Read the books Universal Studios has tried and failed to censor on Amazon.com...

And read these books at another location where Universal Studios executives and its stealth marketers won't be able to post negative, misleading (stealth marketed) reviews of the books via them purchasing candy and Rogaine Foam on Amazon.com (allowing them access to the Amazon book review section) and not actually buying and reading the books. I'll leave the other 150 global locations under wraps for now.
