Our Friends in England and Australia Got Screwed By Universal Studios Far Worse Than We Did

Based upon initial first impressions, I had thought that Universal Studios had released superior DVD sets of the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series overseas. Boy was I wrong!!

Just viewing the specifications for the "Galactica DVD Sets" released in England and Australia in the link above, you can tell that the poor folks in England and Australia got screwed by Universal Studios far worse than those of us here in the United States.

Keep in mind that these are single-sided discs released overseas, with Universal Studios cramming as many as 5 episodes on one....1 sided disc. Some of those episodes 2-parters!!

I can only imagine with horror the compression problems these DVD sets are presenting to consumers in England and Australia due to idiotic Universal Studios cramming too much content on  one disc.

I am going to say what should have been said about Universal Studios a long time ago...

They don't know "jack shit" about DVD technology...They don't know how to manufacture DVD sets of classic, episodic television series. If there is a such thing as "Quality Control" within the DVD manufacturing wing of Universal Studios....it is an administrative broken system that needs to be cleaned up with rigorous regulation. Perhaps most importantly, Universal Studios is completely oblivious to the technological fact that cramming too much content on to one disc creates compression problems on these discs.

Universal Studios is releasing unacceptable and defective DVD products all over the world with alarming regularity. And that is no lie!!

Call Me a Pessimist If You Will, But I Do Believe That Universal Studios And Bryan Singer Are Trying to Weasel Out of Making This Movie For a Third Time

And out of all the things in this life...boy do I know Universal Studios and Bryan Singer!!

I have even come up with a symbol which I believe perfectly sums up the lack of progress Universal Studios and Bryan Singer always succumb to when trying to crank out a "Battlestar Galactica" movie....

Let's recap the "Universal Studios / Bryan Singer Scorecard" thus far, shall we?


1. Their "October 23rd 2011 Battlestar Galactica Movie Annoucement" -

Moving into the eighth month after this announcement, no production news, no casting news, etc. Zip, Zilch, Nada. Another "Press Release Hoax" orchestrated by Universal Studios and Bryan Singer no doubt.

2. Their "February 2009 Battlestar Galactica Movie Announcement" -

This claim by Universal Studios and Bryan Singer just sort of faded away with Universal Studos and Bryan Singer saying nothing (of course) as to why this movie never got made.

3. Their "2001 FOX Television Battlestar Galactica TV Series Announcement" -

Bryan Singer claims that it was the 9/11 attacks that halted this production. Yet every other movie and television series in production at that time still managed to get made.

Universal Studios and Bryan Singer should open up their own "B.S. Website" together, where the two of them can just shovel alot of B.S. to their website visitors.

"Quantum of Solace" On The SyFy Channel? Why Am I Not Surprised?

Bonnie Hammer, David Howe, and Mark Stern love this sort of thing. Last night on their monumentally boring SyFy Channel, they aired the James Bond flick, "Quantum of Solace." Yet another example as to the real reason why the three of them retitled their network....."SyFy." So that they could engage in the most lazy programming habits imaginable (airing anything and everything easily within arms distance reach, and not aimed at any segment of the viewing audience in particular.)

It has become clear that "SyFy" is not some cool renaming of "Science Fiction." It is in fact a corporate acronym from the "Universal Studios Black Tower" symbolizing their desire to not be tied down by a singular and discernable on-air identity. The ultimate manifestation of corporate laziness in broadcasting because it would limit their subject matter options in putting stuff on the air.

The SyFy Channel is nothing more than an ambiguous free-for-all of a cable network, where subject matter of all shapes and sizes (in the form of television programming) unrelated to one another are aired back to back on one ambiguous cable channel.

The master plan of NBC-Universal all along with this cable network, was to make their lives as lazy and as easy as possible. Professional wrestling here...a James Bond movie there....a cooking show here....AMBIGUITY EVERYWHERE!!

It's crystal clear now what the "SyFy" acronym's meaning is for viewers as intended by NBC-Universal....

"So You're Feeling Yucky?"

"Watch our cable channel and we'll make you feel even worse!!"

What is The Cold-Hearted, Brutal Truth About The SyFy Channel? It is a Carbon Copy of a Late 1970s Commercial Broadcast Network

ABC-TV used to pull this crap in the late 1970s, just as the SyFy Channel is doing now. Airing badly produced, badly written television programming not aimed at any segment of the viewing public in particular.

In ABC-TV's case, their garbage programming took the form of melodramatic cop shows such as "Hart to Hart", and crappy sitcoms like "Happy Days."

As for Science Fiction programming? ABC-TV absolutely decimated the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series and other Science Fiction series they touched.

In the SyFy Channel's case, their garbage programming has taken the form of such mindless nonsense such as"WWF Wrestling" and a cooking show.

As for Science Fiction programming? The SyFy Channel absolutely decimated any opportunity of reviving the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series or successfully making the "Galactica" property an ongoing lucrative franchise for themselves in the 21st Century.

The SyFy Channel's Sham Version of "Battlestar Galactica" Never Did Replace The Only True Original Series Produced in 1978

In no small part due to Ronald D. Moore's staggering lack of talent and imagination as a Science Fiction television producer and scriptwriter.

And the staggering lack of collective talent between Bonnie Hammer, David Howe, and Mark Stern as television programmers.

Thus, Ronald D. Moore's sham version of "Galactica" is rotting away in unsold DVD boxed sets on Amazon.com.

Of course, none of this would have happened if everyone involved knew their proper places in life from the beginning:

Ronald D. Moore: His only roll in life is to be a staff writer working for alot of producers at once.

Bonnie Hammer / David Howe / Mark Stern: All three of them are nothing but retail marketers who should be working in the marketing department of the "Tootsie Roll" candy company.

Out of All The Projects Bryan Singer Has Announced Over The Years, His Most Insignificant is The Only One Coming to Fruition

Let's recap, shall we?

Out of the scores of new theatrical projects Bryan Singer has announced and has claimed to be working on, not one of them has come to fruition...ever. And this includes:

1. Battlestar Galactica
2. Logan's Run
3. Six Billion Dollar Man
4. Excalibur


Yet, during the past half decade, the only...and I mean the only Bryan Singer project that has ever made any sort of significant progress, is the most insignificant of his projects of all...

A piss-pot little television pilot for NBC which is nothing more than a remake of "The Munsters."

My how the mighty have fallen....

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Bryan Singer was poised to become the next Steven Spielberg or George Lucas. It never happened because Singer spent the entire decade of the 2000s announcing scores of projects and literally abandoning them a few hours later.

Bryan Singer has taken a massive hit to his career and his clout, and I'll tell you why...

Theatrical films are a director's medium and television projects are a producer's medium. This means on "The Munsters", Bryan Singer is going to working for alot of producers whereas if he had had the clout to get any of his announced theatrical projects off the ground, he would have been working for himself with input from producers.

The fact that out of all of the various projects Bryan Singer has announced over the years ( 99% of them theatrical) none of them he could get off the ground, yet the only project he could get off the ground (actually the producers got this project off the ground) was a piss-pot little television remake of "The Munsters", tells me that Bryan Singer is heading straight to television....permanently. Making failed television pilots based upon old television series. And being an ever roaming, hired hand television director for television producers.

I'll make an educated guess here and declare that Bryan Singer is now officially done as a theatrical director. This "Munsters" television pilot confirms it.

I also suspect that Bryan Singer's next port of call will be as a sitcom director.

Perhaps The Reasons Why This Project Never Gets Made, Is The Lack of "Moral Watchdogs" At Universal Studios

And Lord knows out of all of the studios in Hollywood, Universal Studios needs "Moral Watchdogs" the most.
