This Blog Loves Anniversaries!! Especially Ones That Are Embarrassing To the Perpetrators (Universal Studios) And Casts Them In a Negative Light!!

Michael De Luca Scott Stuber Battlestar Galactica

The level of incompetency involved in a corporation (Universal Studios) that has never been able to get its..."Corporate Shit"... together after 17 years and make this movie...only being able instead to issue..."Fake Battlestar Galactica Movie Press Releases"...like this one instead roughly biennially for the past 17 years...is truly STAGGERING!!

The two year anniversary of this latest and..."Fake Battlestar Galactica Movie Press Release"...is coming up in two weeks, on February 10th, 2018.

Let's celebrate this two year anniversary together!!

To Universal Studios repeated..."Self Inflicted Embarrassment"... and..."Incompetency"... as a corporation.....

Cheers!!

If The Business Executives At Universal Studios Weren't As Stupid As They Are From One Decade To The Next, They Would Have Understood The Astute Point of View Written In This Article

Appreciating Richard Hatch and the Underrated BATTLESTAR GALACTICA ’78 Movie

https://nerdist.com/appreciating-richard-hatch-and-the-underrated-battlestar-galactica-78-movie/

And we would have been enjoying the..."40th Anniversary"...of the..."Potential Third Largest Space Fantasy Franchise of All Time"...as a result.

"Battlestar"....being right behind..."Star Wars"...and..."Star Trek"...

"And yes, the original TV series had its cheesy moments even before the 1980 “comeback” season that’s extremely difficult to defend. But that’s partly because it was never meant to be a regular series–the initial plan was for three TV movies. When the network and producer Glen A. Larson made it a weekly, the writers had to adapt quickly and on a lower budget, not always with the best results. But that original three-hour episode was eventually edited into a two-hour-long movie to help recoup some of the costs of the $7 million dollar pilot. And it is a legitimately great piece of sci-fi."

The supposedly smart business people at Universal Studios never understood this after 40 frickin' years.

"Is it derivative? Sure. Just as Star Wars borrowed heavily from Flash Gordon, Silent Running, The Hidden Fortress, and everything else George Lucas liked, Galactica has elements of Star Wars, Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, the Book of Mormon (the sacred book, not the yet-to-be-made musical), and a heavy dose of Cold War politics. If it is a Star Wars rip-off, it is maybe the best one… and I will argue that its classic theme music is almost as good."

Agreed.

"So let us first applaud it for what it does better than any of its sources: introduce many characters very quickly, and in very definable ways, without ever feeling like it’s spoonfeeding you. Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) sweeping his gambling winnings into the crotch of his pants during an alert tells you everything you need to know about him, while the James Earl Jones-ish proclamations of Commander Adama (Lorne Greene) promptly establishes him as the righteous veteran and good guy version of Darth Vader. Treacherous Baltar (John Colicos) is instantly recognized as a sleazy appeaser, and his fall into downright evil is inevitable from there. Sweeping in to take his place is Ray Milland’s Sire Uri, an aristocrat who gorges himself at the expense of refugees and insists upon unilateral disarmament right up until the point that it ceases to benefit him personally."

Universal Studios could never comprehend such meat to a story, since Universal Studios is the corporate home of..."Maury Povich"...and..."Sharknado"...among other manifestations of mindless crap.

"Numerous other characters make lasting impressions, like jealous Athena (Maren Jensen), interrupting Starbuck’s secret makeout session, or loyal Colonel Tigh (Terry Carter), a straight-and-noble until he has to lie to his men, at which point he briefly becomes comic relief because of what we know of him already. There’s outcast “socialator” Cassiopeia (Laurette Spang), who reflects Starbuck’s free-wheeling nature right back at him in a more formalized way–yes, space-hookers were on TV way before Firefly. There’s best friend Boomer (Herb Jefferson Jr.), wearily yet willingly tagging along with his pals’ schemes. And yeah, we knew Boxey and Muffit were there to appeal to the youngest kids in the audience, but compare them to Jake Lloyd and Jar Jar and it’s clear which feels less like pandering."

Another valid argument Universal Studios could never comprehend.

"Hatch had arguably the most thankless role of all amidst so many great characters: upon him was the burden of playing the straight-arrow good guy; a hero defined by being a loyal son, a good surrogate father, and the moral counterweight to the more roguish Starbuck. He played it the only way he could–with sincerity. When Boxey wished aloud that Apollo could be his dad, he was expressing the wishes of many youngsters in the audience. The Captain wasn’t just some white-bread generic goodie, but a man you knew would protect you."

Richard Hatch was the best of the best in that role.

"And then there’s the conflict these great characters find themselves faced with, which still rings true today: Do you appease a ruthless enemy bent on your destruction when they extend a hand for peace, or do you automatically distrust? Star Wars had more of a liberal bent, with the Empire representing the Nixon White House in George Lucas’ mind; Battlestar Galactica’s Adama is a Reagan-ish foreign policy hawk by comparison, especially when we learn that the reason the whole war started is that humans felt the need to intervene in Cylon oppression of other worlds. And yet it’s a populist kind of conservatism that greatly distrusts the wealthy, most of whom end up pampered in a resort run by giant insects and prepared as food for their larvae. Eat the rich, indeed."

Universal Studios understanding the nuances of politics within the frameworks of Science Fiction and mass market entertainment? Surely you jest!! The..."Corporate Home"...of..."Maury Povich"...and..."Sharknado"...understanding such subtle shades of politics on different levels?

"Yes, the Viper fighters look a bit like X-wings, and Apollo and Starbuck totally have a Luke/Han dynamic. But the influence didn’t all go one way. Have you noticed how much Imperious Leader’s altering of the bargain between Baltar and himself closely resembles the Vader/Lando deal that would appear onscreen two years later? To the extent that Ralph McQuarrie and John Dykstra worked on both series, there will obviously be similarities, though the Galactica is more Starship Enterprise than Star Destroyer."

Vipers are cooler than X-Wings. (1978 Battlestars) are cooler than Star Destroyers. George Lucas lifted the ice planet setting from..."Gun On Ice Planet Zero"...for..."Empire Strikes Back." Lando Calrissian lifted from the Col. Tigh character.

"Plus it looks amazing; the models still hold up better than far more recent films do. Veteran TV directors Richard A. Colla and Alan J. Levi may not have had Lucas-level gifts when it came to editing action, but little is ever unclear in the space battles, and the effects shots worked so well they were subsequently recycled in probably every episode. Just looking at those intergendered, four-eyed and dual-mouthed space Motown singers break my brain–I get hung up just trying to figure out how that makeup was done."

The models and the visual effects haven't aged. They still look really good.

"As a twentysomething film school grad viewing for the first time (granted, I knew every detail by then, as I owned the picture storybook in the pre-VHS era), I was transfixed. This was not the flying-bikes-on-the-freeway cheesefest people had been talking down for years, but a bona fide space epic, with a plot specific enough to feel like it related to current events but also classically scriptural in a way that made it timeless. If Adama was Moses, leading his people into the desert to find the promised land called Earth, Apollo was the worthy Joshua who would succeed him… the fact that he didn’t is one of many problems with Galactica 1980, but whatever. You don’t have to accept any of what came later as canon, because the beauty of the movie is that it does have enough closure to satisfy."

When do the psychological sessions begin for Universal Studios executives to be mentally re-programmed?

Respectfully Disagreeing With The Great Richard Donner's Negative Assessment Of "Superman-The Movie: The Extended Cut"

See the source image

https://screenrant.com/superman-movie-extended-cut-donner-criticisms/

Not only is..."Superman-The Movie"...the greatest superhero film ever made, but it is also Richard Donner's greatest achievement as a film director. Made in the pre-digital age of the mid-1970's, the images of fantasy Mr. Donner conjured up with his crew still amaze to this day, and show an unsurpassed knack for inspired thinking and breathtaking imagination on the part of Mr. Donner, his production designer (the late John Barry), and scriptwriter (the late Tom Manckiewicz.) The inspired images of an all crystal planet..."Krypton"...are so stunning (and remain so to this day) that even the...ultra-snooty...."Cinefantastique"...magazine of the late 1970's praised the all crystal look of the planet..."Krypton"...Calling it the most imaginative depiction of an alien planet ever put on film.

It is puzzling then, how Richard Donner has such contempt for his own hard work in this extended version of..."Superman-The Movie"...This blog not only believes that all of Mr. Donner's restored footage in this extended edition is vital to the story, but also showcases even more of Mr. Donner's brilliance as a film director.

1. It's vital to the story that viewers know that a..."Kryptonian Executioner"...was sent to..."Jor-El's"...quarters to execute him because he tapped into excessive power to help his son..."Kal-El's"...ship launch. With footage of the..."Kryptonian"...landscape streaking by reflected in the eye pieces of  the helmet of this executioner as he is flying to..."Jor-El's"...quarters. We learn from this brief scene that..."Kryptonians"...had the power of flight on their own planet. Viewers need to know this.

2. It's vital to the story that viewers know that..."Ms. Teschmachers"... mother was rescued by...."Superman"...when he diverted one of the missiles away from Hackensack, New Jersey.

3. It's vital to the story that viewers know how the Indians couldn't get rid of their worthless desert land until..."Lex Luthor"... offered to buy it.

Visually, the following footage just adds immensely to the overall enjoyment of the film...

1. More footage of the..."Smallville"...teenagers driving along as young..."Clark"...races to catch up to them.

2. The long panning shot from horizontal to vertical as a cat burglar scales up the side of that building. Brilliant!!

3. "Superman"...encouraging..."Jimmy Olsen"...to get more photos of..."Hoover Dam"...as he is flying him to safety.

4. Extra footage of..."Superman"...lifting the Earth's crust back into position during the earthquake.

5. More footage of..."Superman"...successfully diverting one of the missiles into outer space.

6. More footage of..."Krypton"...collapsing on to itself before the planet explodes.

With all due respect to...Richard Donner....he is just too hard on himself and his work in this extended edition. Everything restored here is vital to the story. Visually and in terms of plot.

Can You Believe That "Wikipedia" Has An Entire Page Devoted To The Psychological State Of Universal Studios As a Corporation? It Isn't Pretty. Viewer Discretion Is Advised

Has it really been 17 years that Universal Studios has been issuing these endless..."Fake Battlestar Galactica Movie Press Releases"...(roughly one every two years in between)....? With never a..."Corporate Finger"...being lifted at Universal Studios to make these movies...ever.

And the fake press release in the link above will be two years old in about two weeks.

Take note all pathological liars. This is how it's done professionally by an entire corporation. Repeatedly!!

Out of Morbid Curiosity, This Blog Picked Up a Copy Of "Blood & Chrome" In Order To Review It

See the source image

Morbid Curiosity -

When curiosity and common sense collide: Enquiring further about a subject when you know you really don't want to know the answer.
__________________________________________

"Blood & Chrome"...was the last hurrah for Ronald D. Moore's highly derivative and monumentally boring universe in his..."GINO" - (Galactica in Name Only)...series.

It perfectly sums up why Ronald D. Moore and David Eick were the wrong producers for the job in tackling anything with the..."Battlestar Galactica"...brand name in its title.

Like..."Caprica"...and like..."GINO"..."Blood & Chrome"...had absolutely nothing to do with the only true..."Battlestar Galactica"...universe created by the late Glen A. Larson and the late Leslie Stevens.

Conceptually and from an ill-conceived standpoint, this is the laziest production ever put on television film.

Rather than being about the truly unique universe of Glen A. Larson and Leslie Stevens (with Mormonism, ancient Egypt, and a loving family towards one another and their friends serving aboard a military vessel)..."Blood & Chrome"...is instead the last hurrah for every crappy idea that Ronald D. Moore and David Eick brought to..."GINO"...and..."Caprica"...

1. Moore and Eick's status quo, cardboard characters are supposedly thousands of light years from Earth and supposedly never heard of Earth, yet everything in this television film is strangely Earth bound. Earth bound characters, technology, uniforms, overall dress. Everything. This blog knows damn well that this is due to the fact that Moore and Eick (aside from having zero imagination and zero inspired thinking since day one of..."GINO")...also never had the budget to build imaginative worlds as well. Ronald D. Moore called this entire mess of..."Goop"...."Naturalistic Science Fiction." This blog instead will always refer to it as lazy producing and scriptwriting.

2. This low budget television film dropped the ball even further with characters cursing up a storm with all too familiar Earth bound words like... SHIT...DAMN....HELL...etc. What happened to...FRACK...in this television film? It couldn't even do that anymore. I thought these characters weren't supposed to have heard of Earth, especially in this..."GINO"...prequel!! So, why is our planet being emulated up the ass from every conceivable standpoint in this television film?

3. This film suffers from the same crime that the..."GINO"...and..."Caprica"....series suffered from. A unique universe never conceived of in the first place, replaced instead by a lazy as hell (in misconception) Earth bound universe with zero imagination with fragments of..."Top Gun"..."Rick Berman Era Star Trek"...and..."Aliens"...thrown in.

4. "Blood & Chrome"...like..."GINO"...and..."Caprica"...before it, offer no credible explanations as to why and how these characters from..."Moore's Zero Imagination Universe"...parallel Earth development so closely and to the letter. These productions just hit the ground not running, coming across instead as just more boring and mundane sequels to..."Aliens"...or..."Top Gun"...or..."Rick Berman Era Star Trek"...

5. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick were the wrong producers all along to tackle anything with..."Battlestar Galactica"...in the title. Just as..."Universal Studios / SyFy Channel"...was the wrong corporation all along to own anything called..."Battlestar Galactica"...all along. For 40 frickin' years.

6. Everyone listed above (in #5) have always had such a stunning lack of imagination and inspired  thinking that it's no wonder that..."GINO" - (Galactica in Name Only)..."Caprica"...and..."Blood & Chrome"...were all...MASS MARKET FLOPS...The lot of them only have themselves to blame.

7. In one scene, a character plays a piano, while still another one pretends that he is a radio disc jockey over comm-line chatter. Never any explanations as to how this humanoid society supposedly thousands of light years from Earth could have acquired a piano or why a character would certainly be emulating a disc jockey from Earth. This lazy production just  hits the ground not running, lazily dumping it on the viewers to try and come up with explanations.

This entire fiasco of Ronald D. Moore's...."GINO"..."Caprica"..."Blood & Chrome"...never wanted to be bothered with imaginative and rational explanations for anything in these three misfired productions. To come up with such explanations would have required thinking outside of the box for everyone associated with these three productions. Which was impossible for everyone involved because everyone involved with these productions had...ZERO IMAGINATION... and...ZERO INSPIRED THINKING...

8. What could have been a fun scene...characters battling a giant snake...is instead reduced to
a snake you can hardly see and a snake no bigger than a man. How about a...Godzilla...sized snake instead? That would have required....IMAGINATION...and...INSPIRED THINKING. Nowhere to be found within a 300 mile radius of Universal Studios and SyFy Channel.

Will "Nova" And "April" Return For "Sharknado 6?"

This blog doesn't know who "Nova" or "April" are, but the girl in the tight spandex top does have nice CANS, doesn't she?

This blog does subscribe to the business theory that bad television can occasionally be forgiven as long as long as one of the female cast members has nice CANS.

Maybe put some CANS on the female sharks in the next thoroughly unnecessary..."Sharknado"...sequel.
