Will We Never See a Blu-Ray Release of "The 1978 Battlestar Galactica" Series Because Universal Studios Allowed The Negatives to Deteriorate Even Further?

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/9073/battlestar-galactica-the-complete-epic-series/

This DVD set was one of the biggest screw ups (intentional sabotage of the "Battlestar Galactica" property) by Universal Studios in the decade of the 2000s. Characterized by manufacturing defects (on purpose) of epic proportions (cracked discs sitting in the trays the consumer discovered the moment the factory sealed cellophane was removed, too much content crammed onto double sided discs causing disc freezing), and most tragically, you could tell that Universal Studios wasn't taking care of the negative of the pilot episode of the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series....."Saga of a Star World." Heavy grain, pops, specks, and audio problems plagued "Saga of a Star World" as it appeared on this DVD set.

Now, this was 10 years ago...when this DVD set was released in October 2003. "Saga of a Star World" was in extremely bad shape back then. What shape is it in now....10 years later? It's a very, very, very safe bet that Universal Studios has spent the past 10 years allowing the negative of "Saga of a Start World" to deteriorate even further...to the point that it is now even worse in appearance than it was 10 years ago on this DVD set. As of October 2003, it was very apparent that the negative wasn't being stored properly....at temperatures inappropriate....in a manner (unacceptable storage conditions) that would fully encourage its deterioration. Excessive moisture, not clean and dry storage canisters.

Flash forward a decade. What condition would the original negative of "Saga of a Star World" be in right now (this very moment) if these reckless storage conditions of Universal Studios continued for another 10 years? I can only imagine with horror what the status is right now of "Saga of a Star World's negative. A negative stored by a corporation that has repeatedly demonstrated its uninhibited corporate hatred for the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series since 1979.

I believe we will never see a Blu-Ray release of the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series primarily due to the fact that Universal Studios has allowed the negative of "Saga of a Star World" to deteriorate even further beyond its October 2003 status due to unacceptable storage conditions and no salvage efforts. Perhaps the negatives of the other episodes are in the same (poor) shape as well after another decade. The series can't be put on Blu-Ray now due to Universal Studios neglect of the negatives I suspect.

Other defect issues plaguing the above DVD set as well....

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/304766-battlestar-galactica-the-complete-epic-series/

quote - "James, you're talking about Universal Studios.  They seem to have zero love for *any* older series.  I'm beginning to think they are waiting on the world of "software as a service" where they'll only offer a monthly subscription to titles available only to stream.

To the OP:

Universal released *many* series/movies on poorly manufactured DVD-18s (2 sides, 2 layers).  The gold color is indicative they are DVD-18 disks, although many are silver.  I do not know if those which are gold are more problematic.   In spite of complaints about and *many* issues with those pressings Universal continued to release flawed product.  Most titles released in that format have never been given a updated release to fix those issues.  I've read comments that they may have a shorter life span due to instability with the glue holding the layers together.  I have *many* Universal titles in this flawed format but so far I've had no problems outside initial ones where I've been able to get a replacement disk during the "warranty" period.  However, every time I play one of these disks my enjoyment is lessened as I expect issues.  This is based on comments from others, like yours.  While other manufacturers released titles in that format they didn't seem to have as many issues as those from Universal.  However, I stopped purchasing "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" (Fox) because I *never* got good copies of S1V1 or S1V2 (after several exchanges on both).  I do not own the original "Battlestar" so can't help you on that one, but "reviews" at
amazon indicate others had pixilation/skipping/freezing issues when this set was released.  Even so, I'd suggest contacting Universal about your issue.  Worst case is they ignore you, but they might actually replace your disk(s), although you would have to pay postage for the return." - unquote

All of the discs in "Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Epic Series" were the cheapo DVD-18s discs (2 sides, 2 layers.)

The "Civil Union" Between The SyFy Channel and Bryan Singer is Now Complete. His Movies Are Now Being Shown On That Network

Now the SyFy Channel and Bryan Singer will be living under the same roof together while making their "Biennial" and "Fake Battlestar Galactica Press Releases." They can now coordinate their deceitful efforts much better now being in such close proximity of one another.

Maybe NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel could make the primary and "Fake Battlestar Galactica Press Release" due next month...while Bryan Singer could make the auxiliary and back-up "Fake Battlestar Galactica Press Release" which would feed off of the previous one. This method worked so well for them two years ago....

Universal Studios "Fake Battlestar Galactica Press Release" on October 21st, 2011.

Bryan Singer's "Fake Follow-Up" on August 3rd, 2012.

Additionally, Bryan Singer now resides where no one else has done any better at Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror either. Including the SyFy Channel itself, Ronald D. Moore, the makers of the "Sharknado" movie, and the makers of the other weekly Horror movies for the SyFy Channel.

Let's Envision What NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel's "Corporate Philosophy" Towards Science Fiction & "Battlestar Galactica" Probably Is, Shall We?

What NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel's "Corporate Philosophy" Towards Science Fiction & "Battlestar Galactica" Probably (More Than Likely) Is....

1. Since none of us at NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel have highly respected backgrounds in Theater, Broadway, and the "Arts" overall...and all of us are instead...nothing but "Corporate Bean Counters" and "Wall Street Marketers"....We must never confront Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" head on because we lack the corporate talent and imagination to do so.

2. Instead, we must always label Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" fans with our own corporate office created stereotype of "Geeks still living in their parents basements." This will ever so conveniently cover up all of our shortcomings at NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel as being cerebrally unable, and not being professionally qualified to tackle Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" in any sort of a way that mass market audiences would find highly entertaining and highly enjoyable.

3. Let's always hire second rate, hack producers and directors (Bryan Singer, Ronald D. Moore) to provide us with mindless fluff that we can always try to pass off as Science Fiction because Singer and Moore are always affordable for the miniscule budgets we set aside for the various SyFy Channel projects...and Singer & Moore are always available and never in high demand from anyone else in Hollywood. Lots of free time, these two!!

4. Let's always hire second rate hack actors who really can't act for our various projects (Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, the entire "Sharknado" cast) because we can always hire them on the cheap and once again...they are always available and never in high demand from anyone else in Hollywood!! Lots of free time, all of these second rate hack actors!!

5. Let's always release "Fake Press Releases" regarding the "Battlestar Galactica" movie (Biennially) we will never make and the "Too Good To Be True" sounding Science Fiction television series that we will never make for the SyFy Channel because in the instantaneous world of the Internet...our "Fake Press Releases" are always forgotten a few moments after we make them. (Rolling my eyes.)

6. Since we only know how to make Science Fiction and "Battlestar Galactica" boring as hell, bland, highly derivative, and totally irrelevant to the subject matters they are supposed to represent on the rare occasions when we attempt both....we might as well just "run with it." Run with our own shortcomings as a corporation. Keep throwing "Jell-O" at the wall and hope that something might eventually stick...after decades of failing.

Is It Any Wonder Why The Only True "Battlestar Galactica" Series From 1978 Remains The Sleeping Giant That It Is Today?

If "ESPN" Were as Poorly Managed as The "SyFy Channel", It Would Have Been Gutted a Long Time Ago

In other words, if "ESPN" tried to ignore its "On Air Identity" of being a pure "Sports Network" and instead broadcast game shows and soap operas, everyone running "ESPN" would have been fired, and entirely new executives would have been brought in.

This same basic rule of common sense needs to apply to this cable network as well. This is not the "SyFy Channel." This is supposed to be the "Sci-Fi Channel." NBC-Universal had no business and no moral right buying this cable network since it was their obvious intent all along to ignore what a Science Fiction channel is supposed to be and instead, turn this cable network into an "Ambiguous John Doe Cable Network" without a discernible "On Air Identity." An "Ambiguous John Doe Cable Network" with a definition that changes each time NBC-Universal reaches into its film vaults and pulls out another one of its crappy movies. "Cape Fear" anyone? This cable channel needs to be gutted, everyone let go, a new corporate owner found (goodbye NBC-Universal), so that this cable network can resume being what it is supposed to be.

If you don't like Science Fiction, then don't go around buying Science Fiction cable networks. Got it, NBC-Universal? You had no business coming around this cable channel in the first place. The obvious reason being....you wrecked it with bad management.

Some Not Surprising Predictions For NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel, Bryan Singer, and Ronald D. Moore

NBC-Universal -

NBC - Universal / SyFy Channel will always continue to be the corporation that fails miserably at managing anything Science Fiction related and "Battlestar Galactica" related. And not making noteworthy money from both as a consequence.

Bryan Singer -

Let's face it. When anybody ends up at the SyFy Channel making monster movies for them (for any reason) their career is pretty much toast. If Singer did direct "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and the movie actually was made for release in 2014, it will only be a marginal success overall, splitting its  modest box office takes domestically and internationally combined, as all of the "X-Men" movies have only ever done. Singer will continue to be a "Floater" in Hollywood. Going from the occasional low budget television production...to the occasional low budget "Magnum Gold Ice Cream" commercials...to the occasional low budget theatrical film. The modest box office take of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will see to it that all of Singer's post "X-Men: DOFP" films will be low budget (if in fact, Singer really did direct it.) The SyFy Channel of course, always being Bryan Singer's home base throughout all of it. From here on in, Bryan Singer will be "On Call" to the SyFy Channel 24 to 7...his new permanent employer when not working on other peripheral and low budget projects.

Ronald D. Moore -

"Helix" will come and go on the SyFy Channel without a whimper or a bang (much the same way "Sharknado" did) and eventually join "Sharknado" in the cobwebbed "$5.00 Discount DVD bins at Wal-Mart."

Ronald D. Moore will also continue to not make a noteworthy name for himself in Hollywood except for being...."that former 'Star Trek' staff writer / producer who used to work for Rick Berman."

______________________________________________

A couple of things simultaneously did in NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel, Bryan Singer, and Ronald D. Moore in their individual and collective attempts at trying to be profitable in Science Fiction and Fantasy.

1. Their individual and collective lack of talent and lack of inspired thinking in the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres...not translating into mass market successes.

2. Their individual and collective, spoken and unspoken adversarial stances against Science Fiction and Fantasy fans. Spoken: "It's our f***ed way or the highway with the Sci-Fi Channel and 'Battlestar Galactica.'" Unspoken: Fake press releases throughout the years announcing projects that never come to fruition.

What Exactly is "Bad Hat Harry Productions?"

http://tviv.org/Bad_Hat_Harry_Productions

Yeah, OK. We have a definition of it right here. But, what is it in physical terms? Is it a little hut on "Gilligan's Island"....or is it a majestic facility somewhere occupying hundreds of acres? Based upon personal observations and conclusions, I suspect it is the former and not the latter. Because if it were the latter, Bryan Singer certainly would have completed all of these projects by now....Because thousands of employees would have enabled him do so....

This Sort of Thing Certainly Ties Right in With All of The "Fake Press Releases" NBC-Universal / SyFy Channel and Bryan Singer Routinely Fan Out, Doesn't It?

http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474976966765

For whatever reasons known only to the one God everyone worships...Universal Studios, SyFy Channel, and Bryan Singer simply cannot conduct business while being on the level. They always have to lie, scam, and cheat. There is always (and I mean always) some sort of malicious deception involved emanating from the very core of everything they do....aimed directly at the general public.

SyFy Channel and Bryan Singer are Developing a Script? The Same Way Bryan Singer Has Been Developing a "Battlestar Galactica" Script Since 2001? Along With Many, Many Other Scripts Through The Course of The Ages?

http://www.worldscreen.com/articles/display/2013-9-23-usa-syfy-bryan-singer-creatures-at-bay

We all know what the usual trajectory is for Bryan Singer every time he claims to be developing a script either by himself or with somebody....It never gets developed for actual physical production.

I have some advice for SyFy Channel and Bryan Singer if they ever manage to make progress in ripping off the "Cloverfield" movie and doing a small town version of it. Why bother? It's a boring, derivative, and stupid idea. Additionally, SyFy Channel doesn't have financial access to the convincing CGI technology necessary to pull off this stupid idea. Just look at any of their "Monster Movies of The Week."

Last Night, I Watched The Most Extraordinary, Inventive, and Immensely Entertaining "Science Fiction / Horror" Television Series The Likes of Which I Had Not Seen in a Long Time

As I sat there watching the pilot episode of this magnificent series, it began to dawn on me that this series also had a not so obvious characteristic about it making it all the more palatable. I finally figured out what it was....

This "Science Fiction / Horror" series was not made by NBC-Universal....Bryan Singer....or Ronald D. Moore.

Which is why it didn't suck!!

It was filled with fresh ideas, inspired ideas...and was a refreshing take on the "Headless Horseman."

There are talented people in the movie and television business who can make entertaining Science Fiction and Fantasy. They just don't work for NBC-Universal and they are not Bryan Singer and Ronald D. Moore.

Now Here's a Remake Idea Bryan Singer Hasn't Covered Yet in His "Fake Press Releases" and Ronald D. Moore Could Make Even Worse Than The Original!!

....If that's even possible!!

I probably shouldn't laugh. NBC-Universal, Bryan Singer, and Ronald D. Moore will more than likely get together at some point and say to one another...."You know what? That's really not a bad idea!! We'll turn the flop into a mega-hit!!"

How would NBC-Universal and Ronald D. Moore reimagine "Supertrain?" (Bryan Singer would never get around to it!!)

Supertrain!! A mobile psychiatric hospital on wheels traveling the country and treating people with "Bi-Polar Disorder, clinical depression, and suicidal tendencies. Edward James Olmos (of course) would be the Captain of the "Atomic Powered Choo-Choo"....Piloting "Supertrain" across the country with a GREAT... BIG...FROWN ON HIS FACE. Aaron Douglass will be the on board mechanic of "Supertrain." ("I have one Phaser Bank fully recharged, Captain!!") Tricia Helfer (of course) would be the on board "Escort"...."Tart"....."Eye Candy Scenery"....and "Cruise Director!!" Katee Sackhoff (of course) would be the on board "Homeland Security Officer." "Supertrain" is equipped with an on board discotheque...electro shock therapy room...torture chamber...brothel.....and a "Starbucks" coffee stand. NBC-Universal and Ronald D. Moore should be able to cover all of their "Elite Wall Street Demographic Groups" with accomodations like that in this tv series!! Total - 25 people.

In the exciting pilot episode of "Supertrain"....an old "mentally ill acquaintance" of "Captain Frown Face" (Edward James Olmos) escapes from a local psychiatric hospital while the "Supertrain" is docked in Seattle and while "Captain Frown Face" is at a local shopping mall with his "Supertrain" crew buying all natural remedies (in bulk) for Bi-Polar Disorder. "Supertrain" is stolen (hot wired) by this mentally ill acquaintance while the crew is at the local shopping mall. It's up to Captain Frown Face and his crew to hitch cab rides across the country trying to catch up to "Supertrain!!"

And We Have Yet Another "Fake Press Release" From NBC-Universal and Bryan Singer

http://www.deadline.com/2013/09/bryan-singer-to-produce-modern-monster-drama-project-for-syfy/

I'll go ahead and add this "Fake Project" to Bryan Singer's "Eternally Growing List" of "Fake Press Releases"....Just to be on the safe side!!

To quote someone in the link above...."What could possibly go wrong?" (Rolling my eyes)

Isn't it interesting...."X-Men: Days of Future Past" is supposedly in post-production right now (a round the clock job for any supposed director)...yet Bryan Singer found time to close this deal? Hmmmm!!

Oooops, I almost forgot!! "Closing a deal" as it is worded in these "Bryan Singer Fake Press Releases" doesn't actually mean that he "Signed a Contract" to make "Creature At Bay." It's more like....Singer might get around to making "Creature At Bay" at some point in his lifetime. Very informal....very "Footloose & Fancy Free!!"

I think Bryan Singer may have found his "Career Contingency Plan" in the event something happens to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" scheduled for release next year. Such as, the movie was never made!! He now has a very bright future making "Sharknado-esque" horror movies for the SyFy Channel. Or so what the latest "Fake Press Release" implies.

This is my special tribute to Bryan Singer, and his hopeless attempts at trying to get anything made in Hollywood...

Read the books Universal Studios has tried and failed to censor on Amazon.com...

http://languatron.freeforums.org/viewforum.php?f=60

And read these books at another location where Universal Studios executives and its stealth marketers won't be able to post negative, misleading (stealth marketed) reviews of the books via them purchasing candy and Rogaine Foam on Amazon.com (allowing them access to the Amazon book review section) and not actually buying and reading the books. I'll leave the other 150 global locations under wraps for now.
