Why Did "R.I.P.D." Fail at The Box Office? Let's Get Down to Brass Tacks. Universal Studios Blatantly Ripped Off The "Men in Black" and "Ghostbuster" Movies

The premise of "R.I.P.D." (based upon the comic book) is to pursue "Dead-ites" (dead souls who have escaped purgatory) and recapture them. Fair enough. But why do the souls of dead people in "R.I.P.D." (such as in the picture above) look like the Rick Baker designed...rubberized extraterrestrials in "Men in Black" (such as in the picture below?)

This esteemed "Ball-Chinian" from "Men in Black 2" could also do double duty as a "Dead-ite" in "R.I.P.D." And weren't the evil nasties in Sam Raimi's "Evil Dead" movies also called "Dead-ites?"

Somewhere along the way in the genesis of this movie...Universal Studios became less interested in doing a film based upon the "R.I.P.D." comic book...and instead wanted a movie where the rubberized creatures from "Men in Black" were running around.

I say again...why would the soul of a dead person in "R.I.P.D." look like one of Rick Baker's menagerie creatures from the "Men in Black" movies? Even within the realm of fantasy explanation, any answer would be ludicrous.

What else is wrong with "R.I.P.D.?" Let's start off by spotting the other thefts from "Men in Black" in "R.I.P.D."

Let's see now!! In this scene from "R.I.P.D.", a big open spaced office is where the main characters dwell in between hunting down the bad guys. In the "R.I.P.D." open spaced office, we see rubberized / CGI monsters in the background (in handcuffs) being escorted to jail cells!! The police officers sitting at desks in this scene look like "Retro - Police Officers" from the 1950s in how they are dressed.

My oh my!! Where have we seen this scene before??

Let's see now!! In this scene from one of the "Men in Black" movies...a big open spaced office is where the main characters dwell in between hunting down the bad guys. In the "Men in Black" open spaced office, we see rubberized / CGI monsters in the background (in handcuffs) being escorted to jail cells. The federal employees sitting at desks in these scenes throughout the "Men in Black" franchise of films, look like "Retro Federal Employees" of the U.S. Government from the 1960s in how they are dressed.

In "R.I.P.D.", the good guys fire laser guns at rubberized / CGI monsters and they go "SPLAT!!" Monster residue everywhere!!

In "Men in Black", the good guys fire laser guns at rubberized / CGI monsters and they go "SPLAT!!" Monster residue everywhere!!

Was that enough for Universal Studios? Nope!! They ripped off "Ghostbusters" also!!

In R.I.P.D., there is a big hole in the sky where dead souls arrive and depart!!

In "Ghostbusters", there is a big hole in the sky where dead souls arrive and depart!!

Is there anything else wrong with "R.I.P.D?"

Do you mean to tell me that everyone involved in "R.I.P.D." who viewed the daily footage of Jeff Bridges never spoke up and said...."Ummm...we can't understand a damn thing he is saying. Can we re- film this?" And Jeff Bridges incoherent dialogue was allowed to survive intact in this movie straight through the post-production process!!

Jeff Bridges sounds like he has marbles in his mouth throughout the whole movie. He sounds worse than Bryan Singer trying to B.S. his way through a fake "Battlestar Galactica" press release.

One of the irritants of this movie is the spoken word courtesy of Jeff Bridges!!

Read the books Universal Studios has tried and failed to censor on Amazon.com...

http://languatron.freeforums.org/viewforum.php?f=60

And read these books at another location where Universal Studios executives and its stealth marketers won't be able to post negative, misleading (stealth marketed) reviews of the books via them purchasing candy and Rogaine Foam on Amazon.com (allowing them access to the Amazon book review section) and not actually buying and reading the books. I'll leave the other 150 global locations under wraps for now.
